June 10, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

Triple Header Volunteer Event - Meadow BioBlitz, Invasive Plant Pull, Native Planting

Join us on Sat, June 10 from 8 am – 12 pm or any portion of it for a partner event with Wild Ones SoKY Chapter! There will be something for everyone and every skill level. We’ll be inventorying plants in the meadow, pulling invasive species from the surrounding area, and then reclaiming that land with native plants via planting and sowing seed. This activity is part of the ongoing effort to expand the meadow and collect data to guide its ongoing restoration plan to benefit the wildlife in this special habitat.

See below for more details. Closed-toe shoes and long pants are recommended.  You are welcome to bring your own gloves, a water bottle, and yard tools if desired.  We will have adult-sized gloves to share if needed, a water cooler, tools, and IvyX.  Snacks and lemonade will be provide by Wild Ones SoKY Chapter!  All we need is you.  Register below.

Meadow
BioBlitz

Participants will check for the presence of native flowers, sedges, and grasses after having an introduction to the plants that have been added to the meadow since 2019. Picture guides will be available to help. You can also use the iNaturalist or Seek apps. This is a great opportunity to practice native plant ID skills with experienced Wild Ones members on-hand to help if needed.

Invasive Plant Pull
& Native Planting

Participants will get down in the dirt with us to pull wintercreeper and its roots from an area worked during LRC’s Earth Week events in April.  We will pull invasive plants. Then, we’ll sow native seed and plant friendly flora to reclaim the land with native plants in our ongoing effort to expand the meadow.
