Earth Week 2020 at Lost River Cave

Earth Week

Earth Week at Lost River Cave is happening now! Come out and celebrate our meadow restoration with us during the week of September 20th-26th. Bring family, friends, and co-workers and enjoy the benefits of nature as we help restore habitats here on the park. All volunteers will receive a FREE Boat Tour Pass and the first 300 participants will receive a FREE Earth Week 2020 T-shirt!

“The care of Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility.” – Wendell Berry

Earth Week 2020 Details

The restoration is open daily, rain or shine, on:

  • Sunday, September 20th thru Friday, September, 25th from 1:30pm to 6:00pm
  • Saturday, September 26th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm

We know superheroes like you are busy, so join us when you can! If you can’t come every day or stay the entire time, no problem.

Everyone aged 10 and up can volunteer! Children 13 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Have a group? Get your students, staff, or club involved in Earth Week! Contact Chad at 270.393.0077 to plan a great volunteer outing for your group.

Each day we will remove invasive and exotic plants, which encroach on native wildflowers and habitat for wildlife.

The Target: Euonymus fortunei a.k.a. Winter Creeper! This commonly used ground cover has been taking over the Valley and is encroaching on the newly planted meadow and surrounding Blue Hole #3. We will spend the week protecting and beautifying these habitats by removing this plant from the area!

It’s super easy! Register online by clicking the button below!

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Chad at 270.393.0077.

Health and safety of all our volunteers is our first priority!

We will continue to practice social distancing during this outdoor event. All Habitat Heroes will be encouraged to wear a face-covering or mask when social distancing is not possible.

Volunteers will be required to bring their own tools and gloves to limit contact with others, but Lost River Cave will provide hand sanitizer, poison ivy protectant, plenty of room to spread out, and fresh air!

Honoring our Habitat Heroes is the least we can do! Earth Week Awards will be announced on Saturday, September 26th at 4:00pm for:

  • Most Volunteer Hours by a School, Organization, Business, or Individual
  • Most Volunteers by a School, Organization, or Business

Winners not only receive the framed award certificate but also bragging rights until the next Earth Week (April 2021)!

But, wait there’s more… Door prizes will also be given out on Saturday, September 26th at 4:00pm. The more days you volunteer the more chances you have to win!

Thank you to Our 2020 Sponsors!
