Since you can’t visit the Park right now, we’re bringing the Park to you! Justin, our Property Manager, snapped these pictures of spring Mallard hatchlings hanging out with their mom and dad in our wetlands system.

They’ll remain with their mother for 50-60 days after hatching until they fledge, are able to fly, and become independent. 🦆

HABITAT: This animal can be found in almost any wetland habitat including places like marshes, bogs, riverine floodplains, lakes, reservoirs, ponds, and even city parks.

FOOD: Mallards are foragers, which means that they eat a wide variety of food. During the breeding season they mainly aquatic animal matters such as insect larvae, earthworms, snails and freshwater shrimp.

NESTING: They tend to nest on dry ground close to water. Nests are usually concealed with grass and other vegetation.
