The butterflies come in a sleepy state and the warmth of your hand will help wake them up before they take flight!\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”15px”]Get Tickets[vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_column_text css=””] \n\nHere are the need-to-knows: \n\nTiming: Be sure to arrive at the park early enough so you can park and walk from the main visitor’s parking lot and reach the Butterfly Habitat before your release time. We recommend arriving at the parking lot 20-30 minutes before your ticket time to allow you to make your way there. Also good to know: the gift shop is your go-to for restrooms as there aren’t any at the habitat. So\, allow enough time if you’ll need to stop in there beforehand.\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””] \n\n\nLocation: The Butterfly Habitat is located in the valley along the trail and can be reached via the Greenway Trail\, the Bluehole Trail\, or the Ridgetop Trail. Each route is about 1/3 of a mile +/- one way\, and all include uneven\, gravel terrain. The butterflies come in a sleepy state and the warmth of your hand will help wake them up before they take flight!\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””] \n\nHere are the need-to-knows: \n\nTiming: Be sure to arrive at the park early enough so you can park and walk from the main visitor’s parking lot and reach the Butterfly Habitat before your release time. We recommend arriving at the parking lot 20-30 minutes before your ticket time to allow you to make your way there.\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””] \n\n\nLocation: The Butterfly Habitat is located in the valley along the trail and can be reached via the Greenway Trail\, the Bluehole Trail\, or the Ridgetop Trail. Each route is about 1/3 of a mile +/- one way\, and all include uneven\, gravel terrain. See map below or stop inside the gift shop for directions.\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””] \n\n\nAttire: Dress for hot conditions and wear sunscreen. You’ll be in full sun inside the Habitat. We also encourage you to wear bright colors as they may attract the butterflies to land on you. Consider whether or not you want to wear bug spray. It’s science and magic all in one! \nWho is CHL?  \nCrawford Hydrology Lab (CHL) is an environmental consulting group and research center at Western Kentucky University. Founded in the late 1970s by Dr. Nicholas Crawford\, a pioneer of dye tracing\, the lab played a key role in restoring Lost River Cave in the 1990s and developing its iconic cave tour. \nWhat is dye tracing?  \nDye tracing is a method of investigating the movement of groundwater. Dye trace investigations can be designed to solve environmental issues involving the origin\, destination\, routing\, and velocity of groundwater flow. \nWhat dye was used today? \nGreen 8 Dye used in small amounts to sustain water coloration for about 48 hours\, is commonly found in everyday products like soaps and medications. There’s a good chance you’ve encountered this dye in your daily life! \nIs the dye harmful to organisms living in the water?  \nThe Green 8 Dye\, used in small\, controlled amounts\, poses no harm to human health and is carefully selected for detection at minimal concentrations. In flowing streams\, the dye is diluted quickly\, ensuring only short-term exposure. This community-driven program invites volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to come together and help protect our park’s natural ecosystem. During the VIP\, we work to remove invasive\, non-native plant species that threaten the health of local wildlife and native vegetation. It’s a great way to make a tangible impact on the environment\, learn about the importance of biodiversity\, and meet like-minded people who care about conservation. Tools\, gloves\, and guidance will be provided—just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to get your hands dirty. Come as you can\, for the duration you can. \nThis event is perfect for individuals who are comfortable with physical activities such as bending\, crouching\, and pulling. Volunteers will be engaging in hands-on tasks like removing weeds\, digging up roots\, and pulling out invasive plants from the ground.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space]Sign Up[vc_empty_space][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \nFAQ\n\nWhat do I need to wear?  We recommend wearing long pants and closed-toed shoes.\n\n\nWhat do I need to bring?  Bring gardening gloves if you prefer your own and a reusable water bottle. If you don’t have gloves\, we’ll have plenty that you can borrow.\n\n\nWhat age can participate?  We recommend participants be over the age of 8\, but all ages are welcome. Children 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.\n\n\nAre there restrooms?  Restrooms are available inside the gift shop\, but not at the pull site.\n\n\nCan I use this event for service hours?  This event is great for anyone who needs service hours. Bring any needed documentation with you. We’ll complete it onsite.\n\n\nWhat if the weather is bad?  VIP is weather-dependent. The butterflies come in a sleepy state and the warmth of your hand will help wake them up before they take flight!\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nSign up for one of two sessions: 12:30 PM or 2:00 PM. Each one lasts approximately 30 minutes.\n\nWe can’t wait to see you there!\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nTickets are $10 and are required to attend.
