This community-driven program invites volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to come together and help protect our park’s natural ecosystem. During the VIP\, we work to remove invasive\, non-native plant species that threaten the health of local wildlife and native vegetation. It’s a great way to make a tangible impact on the environment\, learn about the importance of biodiversity\, and meet like-minded people who care about conservation. Tools\, gloves\, and guidance will be provided—just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to get your hands dirty. Come as you can\, for the duration you can. \nThis event is perfect for individuals who are comfortable with physical activities such as bending\, crouching\, and pulling. Volunteers will be engaging in hands-on tasks like removing weeds\, digging up roots\, and pulling out invasive plants from the ground.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space]Sign Up[vc_empty_space][vc_separator][vc_column_text] \nFAQ\n\nWhat do I need to wear?  We recommend wearing long pants and closed-toed shoes.\n\n\nWhat do I need to bring?  Bring gardening gloves if you prefer your own and a reusable water bottle. If you don’t have gloves\, we’ll have plenty that you can borrow.\n\n\nWhat age can participate?  We recommend participants be over the age of 8\, but all ages are welcome. Children 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.\n\n\nAre there restrooms?  Restrooms are available inside the gift shop\, but not at the pull site.\n\n\nCan I use this event for service hours?  This event is great for anyone who needs service hours. Bring any needed documentation with you. We’ll complete it onsite.\n\n\nWhat if the weather is bad?  VIP is weather-dependent. This community-driven program invites volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to come together and help protect our park’s natural ecosystem. During the VIP\, we work to remove invasive\, non-native plant species that threaten the health of local wildlife and native vegetation. It’s a great way to make a tangible impact on the environment\, learn about the importance of biodiversity\, and meet like-minded people who care about conservation. Tools\, gloves\, and guidance will be provided—just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to get your hands dirty. Come as you can\, for the duration you can. \n  \nThis event is perfect for individuals who are comfortable with physical activities such as bending\, crouching\, and pulling. Volunteers will be engaging in hands-on tasks like removing weeds\, digging up roots\, and pulling out invasive plants from the ground. \n  \nWild Ones members and non-members are welcome to attend! If you don’t have gloves\, we’ll have plenty that you can borrow.\n\n\nWhat age can participate?  We recommend participants be over the age of 8\, but all ages are welcome. Children 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.\n\n\nAre there restrooms?  Restrooms are available inside the gift shop\, but not at the pull site.\n\n\nCan I use this event for service hours?  This event is great for anyone who needs service hours. Bring any needed documentation with you. We’ll complete it onsite.\n\n\nWhat if the weather is bad?  VIP is weather-dependent. During the VIP\, we work to remove invasive\, non-native plant species that threaten the health of local wildlife and native vegetation. It’s a great way to make a tangible impact on the environment\, learn about the importance of biodiversity\, and meet like-minded people who care about conservation. Tools\, gloves\, and guidance will be provided—just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to get your hands dirty. Come as you can\, for the duration you can. \n  \nThis event is perfect for individuals who are comfortable with physical activities such as bending\, crouching\, and pulling. There will be something for everyone and every skill level. We’ll be inventorying plants in the meadow\, pulling invasive species from the surrounding area\, and then reclaiming that land with native plants via planting and sowing seed. This activity is part of the ongoing effort to expand the meadow and collect data to guide its ongoing restoration plan to benefit the wildlife in this special habitat. \n  \nSee below for more details. It’s a wonderful\, native plant with great purpose\, but it’s now taking up too much real estate in the meadow. It’s time to thin them out before they go to seed. In doing so\, we’ll create space for a better balance of grasses\, sedges\, and other forbs. \n[/vc_column_text]Sign Up[vc_empty_space][vc_tta_accordion][vc_tta_section title=”What is VIP?” tab_id=”1591040792849-a0dff3ed-8df4″][vc_column_text]The VIP Initiative is a program that enlists our community to help preserve the woodland\, wetlands\, and wildlife of Lost River Cave and Valley by removing invasive and exotic plants. While Brown-Eyed Susans are native (not exotic) plants\, they may still need a check and balance from time to time.
